How to start securing your network.

To start scanning and secure your network from vulnerabilities with Mageni Security Platform, you just have to completed these two simple steps.

1. Login for the First Time


Once turned on the appliance will boot. The boot process of the virtual appliance can be monitored in the hypervisor (VirtualBox or VMWare).
 


 

After the boot process is completed you can log into the system locally using the console. The default login is user: mageni with password: mageni
 

Change the default password

Please change the default password immediately running passwd from the CLI.

2. Register Appliance


The appliance needs to download the vulnerability database and security updates to help you find the latest vulnerabilities. For that, you will have to register a key. You can obtain a free key from Mageni's website. Go to register and select the Free Subscription. With this license key the appliance will download updates and the vulnerability database. You'll have to login into the appliance using SSH with the username mageni and the (default) password mageni, and run the command: appliance register, insert the license key and press ENTER

If you changed the default password, then use the new one.

If you changed the default password for the user mageni, as it is indicated in the previous section, then you will have to use the new one. Please keep in a password manager your passwords as Mageni Security, LLC can not recover your password if you lost it.

When you run appliance register you will be prompted for the license, just like this:

Success! Now you can start the vulnerability scanning process.

Once that you have completed those two simple steps, you are all set to start scanning your network, computers, servers and IT inventory for security vulnerabilities. From the CLI run show interfaces and go to that IP address using https with your web browser like Firefox, Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge and you will have access the WebUI. The username and password for the WebUI is admin:admin.

Now the appliance can:

  • Update itself automatically, you can also run the update executing appliance update
  • Update the OS automatically to apply security patches and improvements.
  • Use the Web UI to manage, configure and review the scans, reports and vulnerabilities.
